The Allen lineage in Georgia

The lineage is from Thompson William Reed (1943-living as of January 2022) and on my mother's side.

This lineage was a bit difficult to trace since she spent most of her younger life in Epworth Orphanage in Columbia, South Carolina. She was placed there at the age of fewer than two years old after the death of her father, Thompson Duncan Allen in 1918.  World War I and the economic depression of 1920-1921 I am sure played a major role in Marie Morgan Allen allowing the Methodist Church to help her place her children at Epworth. My mother's two brothers, William and Talmadge as well as her sisters Beulah and Eula (identical twins) were placed there as well. As far as I can determine the siblings as well as my mother never returned to rearing by their mother, Marie Morgan Allen although they remained in close contact through Marie Morgan Allen's (later Howard) life.

The lineage changes surnames by marriage after my second great grandfather, Thompson Allen (1819-1875) married Mary Wyatt Charlton (1826-1912). Thompson Allen's father, my third great grandfather, James Allen (1785- 1843), as well as his father, my fourth great grandfather, David Allen (1757-Unknown), are very difficult to document with any reliability.

The Mary Wyatt Charlton Allen (1826-1912) lineage was more easily documented and became very interesting.

James Charlton Allan (Allen) 1844 – 5-5-1912 married

        Martha Burns Winn 5-21-1878 – 1849 - 1920

James Charlton Allan (Allen) was the son of Colonel Thompson Allen and brother of John Duncan Allen (1846-1896), my second great grandfather. Jame Charlton was a Page in Washington DC. Had the opportunity to meet and shake hands with Abraham Lincoln. He later served in Georgia's Company A 2nd. Georgia Infantry during the Civil War 1863-1865.

Mary Wyatt Charlton (2nd GGM and wife of Colonel Thompson Allen) was               the daughter of Cordelia Reviere (1796-abt 1859) and John Kell M. Charlton             (1796-abt 1818. Cordelia's mother was Lean Reviere(1750-1837).

Lean's sister, Martha Revere was married to Judge Charlton of Savannah,                Georgia. Mary Wyatt Charlton Allen the niece of Martha Reviere.

Martha operated the Allegheny Inn Hotel. It was the first hotel in                               Habersham County. After the death of her husband, Judge Charlton,                         Thompson Allen and wife Mary Wyatt joined Martha in the operation of the             Inn.

The Reviere name will reveal itself in more interesting detail further back in               history.
